Ubuntu 10.10 : fun, free, fast ,secured & also gorgeous

Ubuntu 10.10 : fun, free, fast ,secured & also gorgeous

Ubuntu the free open source operating system from canonical is now at a state where it can be called both matured and young. Matured because it is stable and young because it is fast. Lets cut to the chase, this post is not about how the latest version of Ubuntu which is Ubuntu 10.10 aka Maverick Meerkat feels or looks like, this post will describe how to install this Linux based operating system.

First, Download the .iso image file from Ubuntu website. You can download direct from the server or you can also try the torrent download. But downloading via torrent is much more recommended then the direct one. To download directly go to http://www.ubuntu.com

Then click on the Download Ubutnu button, this will take you to another page where you will see options to download the iso file.

After you have finished the download, burn the .iso image to a cd. Then insert the cd in your drive and restart your computer, after a few second you will see a loading screen.

After the loading has finished choose your preferred language and press Install Ubuntu,

Next, if you have a running Internet connection with a better bandwidth then click the 2 options saying Download updates while installing and install this third party software (by default they will be checked, so you don't have to click). But if you have a Internet connection which is on the slow part then please uncheck these two options and you can install them once the OS finishes installation.

At the fourth step you gotta allocate hard drive space for Ubuntu. You can either erase everything from the hard drive or you can give it a space of 30-40 gb's and by doing that you will have dual boot option, which I assume you already know.

In my case I have allocated a 32 gb of virtual drive space to install the OS,

after you have finished allocating hard drive space press install now button on the screen and this will trigger the installation.

As the installation is in progress you have to locate your country/hometown and your time zone from the map in the screen, you can change your location and time zone after the installation too, so don't worry too much about it.

Now press Forward.

Now you are going to choose your keyboard layout. By default USA will already have been chosen, but if you have any other kind of layout choose it from the list.

At the next screen provide your full name, name for your system and password etc.

You are done for now, if the installation hasn't already finished then enjoy the slide show a bit or go get yourself a glass of water or any kind of refreshments.

Now just do as it says in the screen press the restart button and after a few seconds you will be asked to remove the CD from the ROM. Just remove the CD and press one final Enter.

And then after the computer reboots your system will be ready to use.

A FarmVille Obsession

A 22 year old mother name Alexandra V. Tobias from Florida has pleaded guilty to second degree murder. She was arrested back in January for the murder of her own 3 month old child Dylan Lee Edmondson.
After her arrest she told the investigators that her child began crying while she was busy with her FarmVille session on Facebook and that made her upset. Tobias shook the baby boy and smoked a cigarette to calm down and then she shook the baby again. Shaking alone may not have killed the baby, it is possible that the child may have 'hit his head' while Tobias was shaking him. She plea to a judge on Wednesday and will be sentence at a haring on December. Tobias could face the rest of her life behind the bars.

This is not the first time that a parent has been found guilty due to their obsession with computer games. A Korean couple earlier this year was convicted of letting their child starve to death while they were raising a virtual child online. Also a mother was banned from using computers after she neglected her children and let the family dogs starve because of her obsession with a game.
Now a question raises will the organizations that out to destroy games that are violent would jump on to grab the neck of Zynga or Facebook to stop Farmville? That answer may come at later part, but lets be humane and be more attentive to our closed ones then a peace of digital data or in this instance a game. Lets not forget that computers and gadgets are made to ease our life, they are not meant to take it away.
